Join us for ORA's August General Meeting.
The meeting will feature a robust discussion of the future of broadband in light of the FCC’s decision last year to roll back net neutrality rules, featuring presentations by:
- Jay Stanley, a Senior Policy Advisor for the ACLU's Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project, who will be speaking about a recent paper he coauthored on using the "public internet option" to fight back against corporate telecoms' efforts to eliminate net neutrality.
- Deb Socia, Executive Director of Next Century Cities and an advisor to the Arlington County government on broadband issues, who will talk about ConnectArlington, our publicly owned dark fiber network, and how we might use this resource to bridge the digital divide based on the practices of other localities.
As always, the speaker presentations will be followed by Q&A session.
Following the Q&A, we will have several updates and announcements about ORA activities and upcoming events, including information about our planned county board candidate forum, endorsement procedures, and a proposal from ORA National Issues Committee head Daniel Gajewski on endorsing our congressmember Don Beyer.
Lastly, we will have our public forum, which we will kick off with a short presentation by Sonia Klein, a member of the UK Labour Party, who will tell us about opportunities to partner with Momentum, a British analogue of Our Revolution.
We hope to see you all there. Please bring your friends!
