November Meeting: Housing for People, Not Profit

Nov. 11, 2019

Summers Restaurant

Please join us for our monthly meeting this coming Monday, November 11 from 7-9 p.m. at Summers Restaurant in Courthouse where our speaker theme for the night will be Housing for People, Not Profits. (As always, if you cannot join us, you can watch the live stream at facebook.com/ORArlington).
Back in September, a coalition of progressive housing and tenants rights groups published a Plan for a National Homes Guarantee that affirms that everyone living in the United States should have safe, accessible, sustainable, and permanently affordable housing. Much of items in that proposal were ultimately adopted by Bernie Sanders' campaign in his Housing for All proposal.
Peter Gowan, a Policy Associate at the Democracy Collaborative, was a coauthor of that plan (contributing in particular to the social housing section of the plan) and called on the Sanders campaign to adopt the ambitious housing proposals in the plan in this article for Jacobin. Peter will talk to us about the plan and how we may begin to reimagine housing policy here in Virginia.
