ORA General Meeting - Worker Ownership as a Pathway to a Democratic Economy

Please join us for our monthly meeting this coming Monday (September 9) from 7-9 pm at Summers Restaurant in Courthouse.

The main topic of the night will be worker ownership and the democratic economy. We will have an amazing duo of speakers that you will not want to miss.

Peter Gowan, a policy associate at the Democracy Collaborative, will be discussing his recent policy Right to Own: A Policy Framework to Catalyze Worker Ownership, which proposes, amongst other things, a right of first refusal for workers when the owner wants to sell.

In addition to Peter, we will hear from Michael Peck, the North American delegate for the Mondragon Corporation and a co-founder of 1worker1vote. Michael will talk about the (re)emergence of the unionized worker coop model here in the U.S. and his work on helping to establish the Cincinnati Union Coop Initiative, a network of unionized worker cooperatives working to revitalize some of the most marginalized parts of Cincinnati, OH.

In addition to our two speakers on worker ownership, we will hear from ORA member Dan Shuhler about his initiative on municipalizing our energy utility so as to break free of Dominion and meet our climate goals.

As always if you have something to share with us, there will be a public forum. Email us to request time - otherwise it’s first come, first served.

If you can’t make it in person, you can find the Livestream at facebook.com/ORArlington
